Restorative Justice Toolkit
Sacro, the major providers of Restorative Justice services in Scotland, have developed a toolkit for use in cases where in-care survivors of abuse want to engage with the institution where they were abused. The toolkit is being tested with participants from Time to be Heard and a final report is expected in June 2011. You can find out more information about the consultation that was undertaken before the toolkit was designed and also the results so far.
Restorative Justice Consultation Summary & Recommendations
To complement the work of the Time to be Heard it was felt by Scottish Ministers that there was a need to look at the potential of restorative justice (RJ) in working with survivors and the institution involved. SACRO, Derek Brooks (Relational Approaches) and Jenny Johnstone were appointed to look at the potential for restorative justice within this context.
Restorative Justice Interim Report
In May 2010, the Scottish Government launched a national pilot forum Time to be Heard. This Forum gave the opportunity for survivors of in-care historical abuse as children resident in Quarriers Homes to be heard and listened to by an independent Chair and Commissioner from the Forum. Survivors were also offered access to a Restorative Justice process delivered by Sacro.
This report describes the experience of the project up until the end of January 2011. As the majority of casework is still underway, the report is very much an interim one. A final report is expected to be produced in May/June 2011.
